Stories entertain, record what was, is and possibly what will be, and invite conversations about historical and current figures, events, cultures, and places. Laurentian Great Lakes stories span five lakes and the countries of Canada and the U.S. Stories of the history of human settlement and present day communities, war, and industry set in the ecologically rich geography of the Great Lakes engage, surprise and delight. All stories contribute to a Great Lakes culture rich in history, traditions, and friendships.

The region’s stories fill numerous books even as more stories are recorded daily. The stories told here will highlight people and places of historical or recent interest as well as provide a bibliography for further reading.
